SERI is a community-centered initiative committed to epistemic and educational justice. We work to reclaim, uplift, and validate the local wisdom, cultural knowledge, oral histories, and lived experiences often excluded or marginalized by dominant educational systems.
Grounded in the spirit of Śāriputra (Sariputta)—the Buddha’s foremost disciple in wisdom—our approach emphasizes critical inquiry, empirical understanding, and compassionate learning.
SERI works to transform these injustices by:
Empowering youth and community scholars
Reviving cultural and indigenous knowledge
Supporting accessible, decolonial research practices
Expanding pathways for recognition, visibility, and equitable learning
Strengthening a bottom-up, community-rooted knowledge ecosystem
SERI tackles epistemic and educational injustices by focusing on community-centered, evidence-based, and participatory approaches:
Empowering Learners: Training youth, educators, and community scholars in research, oral history, and creative knowledge practices.
Reclaiming Local Knowledge: Reviving indigenous knowledge, cultural values, and oral traditions often marginalized under colonial and modern educational systems.
Supporting Research & Publication: Offering mentorship, guidance, and resources to help local researchers produce, validate, and disseminate knowledge despite structural constraints.
Promoting Inclusive Knowledge Exchange: Creating spaces like Civic Research Café and Wisdom Circles for dialogue between communities, scholars, and institutions.
Grounding in Sariputra’s Wisdom: Emphasizing empirical observation, critical investigation, and the practical application of knowledge to empower learners and communities.
